Common questions

How do I record a spark?
Open Sparks, tap the small dark dot at the bottom of the home screen, and start speaking. Stay silent for three seconds and Sparks saves your note automatically. You can also pull the dot upward and release to save it right away.

Where are my notes stored?
All notes live on your device, as plain Markdown files inside the app's sandbox. They are not synced to any server. If you have iCloud Backup enabled in iOS Settings, your device backup will include them — that's Apple's standard backup, not anything Sparks does.

Why is transcription not working?
Transcription requires a network connection (Apple Speech Recognition uses the cloud) and that you've granted Microphone and Speech Recognition permission to Sparks. Go to Settings → Sparks on your iPhone and check both are enabled.

The transcript came back as "…" — what happened?
That placeholder means transcription returned nothing — usually a brief network blip, or the speech recognizer didn't pick up audible speech. Open the note, tap the trash icon to delete it, and try again.

How do I delete a note?
Tap the note on the home screen to open it, then tap the trash icon in the top-right and confirm.

How do I export my notes?
The export feature is not in v1.0. Coming in a future update — notes are already plain Markdown internally, so export will be straightforward to add. Email me if you need a workaround sooner.

Does Sparks work offline?
Recording works offline, but transcription needs a network. Notes captured without network will save as "…" placeholders. A future version may queue them for later transcription.

Will Sparks come to iPad / Mac?
Not in v1.0. iPhone-first by design. iPad/Mac versions are under consideration.
